Position Title: Park Security

Department(s): Prairie Creek
Reports to (Title): General Manager


PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION

Provides a visible presence at Prairie Creek Reservoir to promote safety, assist visitors, and enforce park rules and regulations established under Chapter 95 of the City of Muncie Ordinance Code. Serves as a deterrent to theft, vandalism, and unsafe behavior. This position is not law enforcement and has no police authority.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Patrol all park areas including North Shore, South Shore, boat launch, park office, maintenance garage, beach, sailboat club, and surrounding property.
2. Monitor docks and watercraft areas to ensure individuals are authorized dock holders or have appropriate permission.
3. Enforce camping rules, including reservations and use of designated campground areas.
4. Verify bank fishing permits and provide information on obtaining permits.
5. Enforce fire safety rules, limiting fires to designated areas only.
6. Promote safe swimming and boating practices; ensure swimming occurs only in designated beach areas during posted hours.
7. Observe and report hazards such as damaged equipment, unsafe conditions, or suspicious activity.
8. Provide general assistance and direction to park visitors in a professional and respectful manner.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Document incidents and maintain accurate records of activities occurring on park property.
2. Coordinate with local law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services when needed.
3. Immediately refer any situation involving criminal activity, threats, or potential confrontation to law enforcement.
4. Do not engage in physical enforcement actions or attempt to detain individuals.
5. Perform other related duties as assigned.

SAFETY AND AUTHORITY LIMITATIONS

• This position is unarmed. Carrying or use of firearms or weapons of any kind while performing job duties is strictly prohibited.
• Employees in this role are not authorized to use force, make arrests, or otherwise act in a law enforcement capacity.
• The role is strictly observe, report, and assist.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Must be at least 21 years of age.
2. Must possess a valid Indiana driver’s license.
3. Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and outside standard park hours.
4. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
5. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while on duty.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Demonstrated ability to interact with the public in a professional and respectful manner. Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to de-escalate situations and remain calm under pressure are required.
