Seasonal Groundskeeper / Laborer

Position Title: Seasonal Groundskeeper / Laborer
Department(s): Beech Grove Cemetery
Reports to (Title): Superintendent


PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

Incumbent performs general maintenance and grounds keeping duties as needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Maintains grounds and buildings; performing mowing with power mower, trimming and cutting shrubs and trees, picks up trash, sweeps floors, washes windows, cleans mausoleums, other routine maintenance/cleaning as required.

2. Rakes leaves and collects leaves, grass clippings, limbs and other debris from the grounds.

3. Loads and unloads trucks of dirt or other materials.

4. Handles and operates all tools and equipment in a safe and proper manner; following all safety rules and regulations. Brings safety concerns to direct supervisor.

5. Maintain shop area in a safe and clean manner.

6. Other duties as assigned.

Incumbent performs work out-of-doors in all weather conditions and is exposed to vibration, machinery noise, dust, dirt and chemicals such as herbicides.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Ability to lift up to 100 pounds. (P)
2. Ability to follow oral instructions. (M)
3. Ability to operate hand-held tools and equipment; including but not limited to shovels, picks, rakes, sledge hammers, lawn mowers, weed trimmers, leaf blowers and chain saws. (MP)
4. Ability to be courteous with funeral directors, bereaved families and visitors to the
a. cemetery. (M)
5. Report all accidents, injuries, damage to equipment and/or property, equipment malfunctions, etc. to immediate supervisor. (M)
6. Must be able to work as a team member. (M)
